Tamer Hosny is the most subscribed Arab singer on YouTube in our list, with about 9.41 million subscribers. He is an Egyptian singer and actor, born on 16 August 1977. His fans call him the "Star of the Generation". He launched his solo career with the 2004 album Hob and also stars in Arabic films. His channel has 623 videos and almost 4.9 billion views.

Nancy Ajram has about 9.3 million YouTube subscribers and over 5.27 billion views across 419 videos. She is a Lebanese singer and TV personality, born on 16 May 1983. She signed with EMI at 15 and released her debut album Mihtagalak in 1998. Her channel was created in June 2012, later than most others here, yet it has the most views.

How many views does Amr Diab have?

Amr Diab's channel has about 4.05 billion views and 7.53 million subscribers from 319 videos. Born in Port Said on 11 October 1961, he is an Egyptian singer, composer and actor. Wikipedia calls him the best-selling Middle Eastern artist and a seven-time World Music Awards winner.

Tamer Hosny has more: about 9.41 million against Amr Diab's 7.53 million. Tamer also has more views (4.93 billion vs 4.05 billion), but Amr Diab gets more views per video because he posts fewer videos.

She is known in the Arab world as the "Queen of the Stage" for her dance routines. Her channel has 2.69 million subscribers, 1.25 billion views and 727 videos.

Arabic music YouTube channels grow in ways that differ from vlog or gaming channels:

• Official music videos: most views come from a few big releases each year.

How do the top Arab singers compare with global stars? British singer Ed Sheeran has about 59.3 million subscribers and almost 39 billion views. Scottish DJ Calvin Harris has 19.7 million subscribers and 19.4 billion views from only 109 videos. Tamer Hosny's 9.41 million subscribers is about one-sixth of Ed Sheeran's total.

The gap is mostly about language reach. English-language pop is played in almost every country, while Arabic music is strongest across the Middle East and North Africa and among Arab communities abroad.
